wax melting experiment

Anyone ever try to melt  wax in the microwave?
i am melting some old comb in a plastic container with water added to give the trash a place to settle out into.

the first attempt produced a decent wax layer above the water level with some trash on the bottom side. looks like a second melting might get the rest of the trash to settle out and leave only wax without trash.

any comments  or ideas welcome.

JP, wonderful site.  I have much wax that I need to process this spring (I am rather lazy sometimes and should have done this before).  I have wax from last year too, but just haven't gotten around to it because of being uninformed of the process and putting it on the back burner until I could find out how properly.  This is a wonderful learning tool, this site, yea!!!!  Have the best of this great day we're livin'.  Cindi

Dallas, hee haw!!!  We are a'fine tunin' the wax melting stuff, yeah!!!!  I think my Husband would take a minute and create a pot like that for me.  I see the Presto pots (like the one on the site) always in thrift stores (I love to look in thrift stores to see if there are any old tupperware gadgets, I collect old tupperware, the best in the west).  So next time I see a Presto pot I am gonna grab it.  Beauty.  Have a wonderful and best day, love our life we live.  Cindi

I was just reading your post and started laughing. My solar melter would not melt ice today. If I could get it out of the building it is stored in, the snow is to deep in front of the door.  Still funny  Tony
