Bees in a sassafras log

Here are a few pictures of a buddy of mine (Eddy) removing a colony from a sassafras log.  Eddy doesn't have any problem jumping right in.  When he picked up the axe and started swinging the bees got a little upset to say the least.









After he got the log split he cutout several sections of comb and put them in an old hive body.



Once he had the comb in the box he took the pieces of log that were covered with bees an beat them against the ground infront of the hive. It didn't take but a few minutes for the bees to go on into the hive.






I was just incharge of taking the pictures. Being new to beekeeping I kept my suit on, I don't think Eddy even ownes a suit. You can see in the pictures that the bees were all sturred up, but they never bothered Eddy.

Excellent set of pictures, Dave, I can only imagine how happy those girls were when that axe came down on their home!  :shock:
