Ok, so I have an Idea!

Honey from every state (ideally every Beekeeping group in each states) being sold from one place/website.

I had the idea, cause i know it can be hard for some people to get local honey (Bigger cities). And I would think, that it would be tough getting it all together, but do you think it would be to hard to get every one together.

It would be pretty much non profit, organization I had the idea for honey from every state, area parts of the state for people who want local honey, (allergies is probably the biggest thing I could think of) I know that most pollen related allergies, can be helped.

I would eventually like to get other products, candles, pollen, wax products.

Input!

Cody, in theory, that is a wonderful idea, I just think it may be really expensive and difficult to put together.  Eveyone would have to ship their honey to that special place, I don't think alot of people would be overly interested, but hey, ya never know.  Let's see what others have to say.  Beautiful day, beautiful life, live like there was no tomorrow.  Cindi

Cody...  That could work but it would have to be a  "drop ship" situation.

All those involved with selling their honey or whatever would only take the sales orders from a central website - the actual shipping of the product would be from the particular state ( beekeepers' state or beekeepers' country) from which the customer wanted.

You'd need a webmaster to set up the site and then just the vendors from each location to be willing to ship the product.  70 to 90% of all we buy online is drop shipped from somewhere else other than from where we placed the order....

Good idea Cody..... sort of a  " World Bizarre of Honey ".  It would take some effort on the website but definitely possible.

I think an online database of Beekeepers for each state and their contact information would be easy to do. The customer would then contact the Beek and set up the order.

Yea, kind of like that, LOL.

I think one website is a good idea but the honey selling itself should still be done on a local level. On the master site people could do a search for beekeepers in their aria and put in orders (when in stock) or make requests. Beekeepers could even enter blogs about their hives and what's going on.

Actually it would be great to have this along side a Beekeeping Supply site like BetterBee. The beekeepers are going there already and them giving their customers a spot to sell their honey to potential beekeepers would be a great idea. I don't know how they'd run the business end of it but I think that's how it would work best.

It could be done, and there are any number of models you could use, though as others have pointed out I would certainly look at it as a drop-ship arrangement.

But... these sorts of projects involve an awful lot more work for the webmaster than you might imagine - even if the webmaster were a beek themselves and got to sell their honey, well, it just wouldn't balance out.

That's not to say it needs to be prohibitively expensive... but you might need to adjust your thinking - why do all the beek users get to sell their product and make money, but the webmaster is nfp?

ps - in case you haven't guessed, I'm a webmaster and database designer in my other life.  :)

If you go to honey.com there is a place to list yourself as a beekeeper and honey supplier.

Well it was just an idea! Too bad its already been put into use (to some degree), thanks for the input and links!

Don't give up, you show signs of being a budding entrepuanier.  It's a good idea and with some refinementc could still work.  It could also be utilized for a different product or you may come up with a different concept.

ya know, if everyone thought that way, the internet would be about one millionth of the size it is now.  :)

Nothing says you can't do it differently or better... or differently and better... just don't imagine it's a five minute job.
