Different Advice When to Check Hive After Swarm

Hi All,

I have rec'd advice re: the hives after a swarm.  I was advised to check the primary hive 2 weeks after the swarm AND then advice to wait for 3 weeks after the swarm.

Also how soon should I check the new colony for progress?

First thing to look at is the bees entering the hive if they are bringing in pollen -if they are then they are fine- did you go back and check the parent hive -that is the one i would check first -or check them both at the same time  8-)  RDY-B

I was curious about checking the parent hive.  It has been 2 weeks since the swarm.  Is it okay to look in there??  I may tomorrow if weather permits, and if you all say it is safe to do...

you dont want to miss out on the chance to learn from the bees as they go through the changes that come from swarming -you will get a better understanding of the bees the opportunity is something you can hone your skills with-we need pics- 8-)  RDY-B

No pics!  I leant my digital camera to my husband for his cross country motorcycle trip to Daytona/Key West...He dropped the camera in New Orleans...it quit working yesterday...boo hoo...I will look inside the primary hive today, weather permitting!
