Saving Surplus Honey

The bees in my one hive had no honey taken from them last year and are loaded with it now.  I left an entire medum full of it on the hive yesterday after my inspection until I could decide what to do with it. I was thinking about pulling eight of the ten frames and replacing it with starter strips.  Can I freeze the honey on the frames to feed back to a hive that may need it inthe fall or the spring?

This is what I did. I froze many frames of honey and have given them all back these past few months.

Brian, exactly as Annette said.  Freeze the extra honey, you never know when you may need that for emergency feeding, or if you make splits, catch a swarm, get new bees, the list goes on.  Beautiful and wonderful day in this great life we live.  Cindi

Extra frames of honey are optimal for expansion purposes and emergency feeding. I saved three mediums of honey and simply placed them on top of five frames nucs i expanded to ten frames in August, added the honey in September and they had honey all winter.
Starter strips will aid in swarm control and cant hurt. Place them near center of box, but not next to one another so they are drawn nicely.
