You make cut outs look so easy I thought I would try one. No pics of the cut out today,I may be able to get some tomorrow when I go to finish the job and repair my damage.

The top part of the hive was about 7 feet high. Not bad at all. I had everything I needed to do the job except a bee vac. I will have one the next time. At first, the hive was very gentle and I was thinking, "this is going to be easy." Then I started cutting comb out. Boy, did their mood change then.

They worked into my suit veil and hit me 10 times in the face. I do have pics, but I am sure they are too scary for the more delicate members out there.

One day I will have it together and be able to produce a story of an easy one, but not today.

The hive had been there for years, they had polished the board that they were entering on to a propolis shine. The comb was mostly almost-black. It measured about 2 1/2 feet by 4 feet and had 3 layers. I never did find the queen but I might tomorrow. I cut the brood into sections to fit my deep frames and filled a single deep before I had to quit for too many stings. My father was watching (probably laughing too) and was a little concerned that I had taken too many hits in the face. I had to set it aside for a return trip.

The benedryl is making me sleepy, I will continue this another time when I am more coherent.

Since I am cursed already, would you mind showing me the pics of your ten stung face? :-D

Sorry things didn't go so well for you Steve. I have had ones that pushed me to my limits, you need these kinds under your belt, they make you stronger, better.

Go back in tomorrow refreshed and get 'er done, and protect the face my man!!

Oh, and I like the title!

you might want to invest in a jacket with a zip on veil.  i bought one after my first cutout last year  :-).  what a difference this year!  all the stings i got were on my backside and legs.  next time i won't wear such tight jeans !!!

i have debated on the bee vac.  have not made up my mind, but think it might be more trouble than it's worth.  i can see where it would help in tight spaces, but so far i have done flat walls.

Jacket and zippered veil is what I use 99% of the time, I feel confident with this set up, and you need to when you're doing cut-outs.

Steve, bummer!!  Face stings are the worst.  Awe, come on, show us the pictures.  I am not feint of heart, neither is that cursed JP, hee, hee.  For those that can't bear to look, they don't have to, but you gotta show us ol' roughy and toughies what your funneee face looks like.  I know that JohnnyBigFish will get a real kick out of this, we love to see the funiness of the swollen faces.  Oh yes, and I do have that evil and sadistic side (oops, did I say that?, hee, hee).  It is not other peoples' misery, just points of interest.  Beautiful and wonderful day.  Cindi

Funny, that is what I said, "I feel like I went a few rounds wiith Mike Tyson." The first day it hurt, the next day I just felt the swelling. Most of it went away today, so all is good.

The hive that I was doing the cut out on absconded before I could get back and finish. My work kept me out way too late Monday and today to get back and button it down. Yesterday there were tens of thousands of bees hanging on to where the old hive was. I had about 75% of the brood ruber-banded into frames and set in front of the cut out ready to go to my bee yard when I gathered the rest of the bees, either with bee vac, finding the queen, or both. I think I messed this on up. At least I will have the storage building clear of bees soon. Unless they moved inside.

Thanks for the laughs my friends,  Steve
