The more stores they more they have to protect so the proddier they get.  Especially if another hive has tried to raid yours.  If they fought off the raiders chances are they will calm down in a few days and be pretty much back to normal.  If they stay hot I would suspect there was a suspercedure and the docile queen was outed.
