Sharon is right in the line of that fire in Santa Cruz and had to evacuate her home today. Everyone say a prayer for her and all the victims of that terrible fire. We are having such unbelievable winds and that is fueling the fire.

jimmyo

I'll be praying for her.
Can you keep us updated?

I live in Northern California and I am far from that fire. But Sharon is right next to it and from her post here on the beeforum, she had to be evacuated. I went on the internet and it looks like the fire is right on her now, as they said something about Aptos Highschool burning. The winds are terrible here up to 45 mph, which is just spreading the fires like crazy. I could hardly keep my car on the road this morning when I drove down to Sacramento today.

I am just checking the internet for the news.

I feel so bad for her.

Praying for all of you out there.  I lived in Los Altos during the 80s and spent many hours traveling over 17 to SC on my few free moments out of the office, so I'm with you all in spirit.

I thought you were closer to where Sharon is.  She is in my prayers & will be checking the news. What do bees do when there are fires like that??Do they go to where there is less smoke or hunker down?  I can't imagine they would leave the brood & queen probably couldn't fly so I answered my own question..duh!

Hope all is well. I once saw wildfires in Montana and Wyoming a couple of times. it is hard for east coasters to comprehend what they look like, move like and just how huge they become, the roar they make. I hope she is well...

Annette, thank you for creating this post, we would have been unaware that Sharon is in trouble.  My thoughts and good wishes are going to her too.  I am sure that she will fair well, and this is what we can only wish for.  When I read this post it troubled my soul.  I know there are so many hardships that we as humans are subject to.  Positive thoughts, they have a power.  Most beautiful and wonderful day, hoping for the best of a safe journey for our forum friend.  Cindi

Hey Guys,

Wow, how extremely KIND I am humbled and honored...We are FINE!  There was a point in time yestrday where it looked as though we might have to leave on voluntary evac...I was freaked as I was alone here with my 82 year old Mom...I packed essentials and the pups, and just had the car ready to leave...

I DID NOT HAVE TO LEAVE!  Your prayers worked!

It is still burning, and I can see the wind shift the smoke...our friends have lost their home, and I am sure I will know some of the others impacted by the fire as we are a small community...but we we RALLY to help for sure...

I worked a hive today with the choppers flying overhead...I can hear them now I think they are checking for spot fires...ugh...the winds are just so unusual...

Okay now back to bees...

I love you guys, thanks

Koala John

I'm very very pleased to hear that you're OK, but sad for your friend's loss of their home. We lose many homes and lives to bushfires down here, particularly in my part of Australia. I know only too well the fear and suffering bushfires cause for people and animals. Stay safe,
John.

Sharon, oh happy day, I have thought about you quite alot since I first read Annette's post yesterday morning.  That is wonderful and makes my day to hear all is well, I am sad for your friend that lost their house though....oh dear.  Have a safe and most wonderfully great day, Cindi

Sharon

I am so happy you are safe and sound. How are the bees doing??? Probably fine I imagine. So, so sorry for the people who lost their homes and this makes me very sad and worried for the coming months.

Being a California native, wildland fires and quakes have always been a part of my life...this is the 3rd wildfire in the past 22 years that has been too close for comfort, then we had that derned 7.1 quake in 1989...

My only advice, be prepared, and love thy neighbor.
