Extractors

I kow this has been brought up many times but i would like to learn more about them. I planned on doing crush and strain this year but, i am thinking about the plastic one from dadant. Im looking for somthing under $200.

  Gee, Jordan, I dont know about the plastic one...Those extractors can take a lickin'. Remember the posts about the extractors what run around?
If I had to do it, knowing what i know now from my extractor, I would wait till you have more cash or maybe find a good deal to get one. I think, in this case, a person will get what they pay for.
Then again, If you use it only once or twice a year, a plastic one may be fine. I vaguely remember someone in here saying they liked their plastic extractor, but I cant remember who it was.

I'm sure someone in your club would be willing to share, if your club doesn't have one already to use. Turn your honey profits following the borrowed extractor into one for yourself the next year.

Understudy uses the plastic one I think. I use our clubs extractor and capping tank. I have chosen to wait until I can afford a small radial extractor thats motorized. I thought and still do, that any hand extractor I buy will only be replaced as i expanded, and was therefore delaying my ultimate purchase w/ wasted money. If you never plan to exceed 6 or so hives, buy one.

Also join bee club. they often auction off used equipment and hand extractors are always available. People either quit or expand and need to upgrade.

When a teenager I was given a single frame extractor--extracting a super full of honey was a real workout.

If U have the tools ans time, Build one.  That's what I did.  It cost me less than $100, and it is motorized.  It can hold up to 8 medium frames.  I will get some pics and post them later today.

I purchased a two frame plastic extractor, pile of crap!!!  The handle bent, it bounced all over the place, just crap.  I would not suggest it one little bit.

But there is an upside to this.  This two frame plastic extractor makes a great honey storage tank, that is what I use it for now, so it was a very expensive honey storage tank, but lessons learned......if only I can figure out what to do with the pieces that held the frames.....beautiful and most wonderful day, love our life.  Cindi

I just searched on the internet and found that there are many extractors on sale at the beesource forum, for a very good price. So i joined and i see that michael bush is the moderator for the website and many of the people that are on this forum are also on that one but i can not post anything yet, because my profile is waiting to be approved. But i think i found where i can get a good extractor for cheap.
