Langley Air Force Base is spraying for mosquitos in our area coming up for three days.  There is a recommendation to cover bee hives.  Will a simple drape over the hive work, or should I take the effort to cover the entrance, tenting the drape?

usually spraying takes place at night or at least evening for mosquitoes. Find out time, it may be easy to drape a wet towel over hive in evening. If it daytime, you'll have to screen them nite before and its very hot.

I was just thinking about this last night as I was getting stung by mosquitos in the backyard. I live in the city and you'll hear trucks driving around once in awhile, fogging. How much danger is there to bees from mosquito spraying?

I am registered with the state, as required.  The past three summers they have not sprayed around us.  This year they did it twice, then went around our block since.  I'm not sure what the laws or ordinance would say.  Sounds like I need to brush up.
Everyone said it couldn't be done. But he with a chuckle replied, "I won't be one to say it is so, until I give it a try."  So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin.  If he had a worry he hid it and he started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done, and he did it.  (unknown)

That was a question I had too. They fogged here a few nights ago and it doesn't seem to have bothered the bees at all.

Here's a good discussion of bees and mosquito control from Florida A&M:
