Sources of wax for processing?

I want to experiment with processing beeswax and trying to figure out if it would be reasonable to ask local beeks to give or sell some to me.

Do you discard your comb/cappings? If so, what amounts (in pounds?) are generally left over? How much of the unprocessed 'stuff' does it take to render a pound of wax?

I always render my own beeswax. I don't think to many people will give it away, since there are always buyers looking for it.
