Okay.  I've been informed that this is burr comb and others have told me cross comb.  I just call it gum or candles :-D

What do you say?  I know this may not be considered important by some, but my curiousity and desire to be correct is sometimes overwhelming... :?

I got a little behind them last year.
Everyone said it couldn't be done. But he with a chuckle replied, "I won't be one to say it is so, until I give it a try."  So he buckled right in with a trace of a grin.  If he had a worry he hid it and he started to sing as he tackled that thing that couldn't be done, and he did it.  (unknown)

"Ran out of room" comb.

I agree.

Can't be cross comb cause it ain't crossing between frames. Could be burr comb as it is filling extra space.

Looks like you had a little too much room under the cover and they built comb there, this happens a lot when the inner cover is put on reversed.

I'll tell you what I call that first picture, "DELICIOUS".

Seen similar in mine between the top and bottom boxes connecting the bottom of the frames above with the tops of the frames below.  I pull them apart and see basically the same thing.

This is what happens in the fall if a hive doesn't have sufficient room for winter stores.  Most likely when using a single deep for overwintering.
If found during a flow it indicates the inner top was upside down and that supering wasn't done on time.  That means an inspection regarding swarm preparations is in order.

Those were new packages that year, only fed for two weeks, and this was around two months after the April install, sometime around the end of June.  Both had grown into two deep hives by this time and I didn't expect them to be this far.  I did super and they filled and capped and, fortunately didn't swarm.  They're going strong still and I'm surprised they still have their same queens they used from the package.

I really need to consider queen rearing.  I think I have some decent genetics.  I was thinking about doing a split next month to see what happens.  Do you think this is a good idea?  The new box will make their own queen.
