Today we experienced this in a few frames we pulled for crush and strain.
We decided it must be pine tree pollen.   Any clues ?

Are you sure you don't have some bee bread in some of those combs you extracted, hence the pollen?

Thanks JP : This "on the job" learning has its drawbacks. I had to look up Bee Bread. I suppose I should have known about this but, just didn't expect to see it in the upper supers.
My wife and I were very concerned as to whether it was some sort of eggs or what. We have Queen excluders on our hives but,  thought it might be something else. BTW: It was a orange ,crumbly, matter when mashed .

Yup pollen, ie bee bread which is pollen mixed with some honey and mashed down in cells for storage.  Usually not in the upper supers, but if you had some brood up there in the past then it is leftover from that.

Source is unknown, but probably not from pine trees.  Bees may collect wind-driven pollen, but not usually.

I personally find it to be unpleasant tasting in honey, but that varies from person to person.

I love the taste of beebread!!! I can just gobble the stuff up, maybe I'm a bee in a past life?  ;)
