I finally broke my lucky streak!

 I've been really lucky with my bees so far, But today,....Today was "Waxworm" day! I had(notice, past tense) a weak hive. Today i went out to feed them and noticed it was quiet....I looked in and saw the webs...I knew right off what it was from people in here talking about them. And the bees were gone. just this last weekend there were only bees in the box. Now there are only worms!

 I hate to hear that, sorry, Johnny. This past spring, I lost a small hive due to them in four days.

Sorry to here it and I know first hand how destructive they can be not form my own hive yet knock on wood but form a friend of mine.

I've been thinking a lot about wax moths lately too.  Partly because of recent "posts" plus the fact that I found a cocoon with a larva in it during my last inspection.  It was on top of the inner cover.  Still not sure what it was.  First year beekeeping is all fun.  After that it becomes a little more difficult.

Wax moth "worms" tend to make an indention where the cocoon is if it is on wood.

Sorry you lost your hive.  I have had one or two wax moth in hives... but only if a hive is weak for some reason. Strong hives show wax moth the door.  So the question is why is this hive struggling to throw off wax moth?  (The other embarrasing reason I have had wax moth is that sometimes I have left comb exposed in storage.)

I think wax moth is mostly a mild disease that we should be able to manage.
