I wanted to share this story because of what Saj is going through right now.

Last week I made up a batch of sugar syrup in two pots. One pot looked nice and clear after I stirred the sugar into the boiling water. The other looked sort of funny in color, but I did not think much about it.

Well when I went to pour the sugar syrup from the pots into this big container, I decided at the very last minute to taste that off color sugar syrup and guess what??? SOAP is what I tasted mixed in with the sugar syrup.

One pot that I took from the dishwasher, apparently, had residual soap on it. I could have killed all the bees if I had given that to them.

I am sharing this so others do not make the same mistake. Now I wash every little thing carefully, even the spoon I use to stir the syrup to be sure everything is very clean.

Good catch Annette, that would have been just awful!

One thing I would like to add that this post reminded me of, everyone be careful when feeding honey to your bees that is of good quality, fermented honey kills bees.

How did the color differ that made you think it was "funny"?  Watch out for soap, it'll clean one's insides out very well.  Don't ask how I know.  Make sure your household dishes aren't contaminated as well.

It was not clear like the other pot. I did not see any soap suds, but I am checking all my dishes now that come out of the dishwasher.

Thanks everyone
