For all you southern beeks
What do the bees gather from these plants I have a few around my home and the bees are all over them. Do they pull nectar and pollen or both?

Keith

Quick answer....No.

Both are not originally from here, and are from tropic regions. Both have primary colors of red (there are white varieties). Both are almost fully hybrids of anything you can buy. And they have never been selected for wildlife value.

All of the above points play a role in making these plants not valuable to bees or most other wildlife.

OK
But I guess my next question is Why are the bees all over the blooms? Is it due to nothing better currently available and they are making the most from what they have?

Options are as follows....

1) Could be, nothing else available.
2) There are many hybrids and varieties of these plants. Maybe some do better than others.
3) I'm a complete idiot and have no clue what I'm talking about.  :-D

:-D I was just wondering and was to lazy to look it up so I figured I'd ask
Who knows maybe there was a sasanqua farmer here on the forums
