Anyone have an opinion on whether or not a Temporal Thermometer would be suitable for checking temperatures of the inside and outside of a hive?  I was thinking that temperature would be an indicator of life inside a hive without cracking the lid during winter...

Thoughts?

It will tell you if you have a living mass inside the hive, a good way of locating and separating dead outs from active hives quickly.

What's a temporal thermometer?

Why don't you buy an indoor/outdoor therm.?   Take the outside sensor, put it in a snack bag, and put it on your top bars.  It will read the temp rising from the cluster.  Bag will keep it free of wax, etc.  It will not give you the temp of the inside cluster but a good idea about what's going on.  Maybe?
