How much space is needed?

Greetings, I am new to beekeeping. At the moment I am reading my first book on the subject, Keeping Bees by John Vivian. I wondering how much space is needed to keep honeybees?

I am in the county and not the city however I only have 1/3 of an acre. Still I keep hearing about bees being successfully kept in garages and on rooftops...while my acreage may not be ideal, if it at all feasable?

You can basicly keep bees anywhere.  1/3 acre is more than enough. Your bees will forage for miles around anyway.

I have .14 acres in the city and have 4 hives beside the house. No problems with the kids or neighbors.

There is only one hive in this pic but there is now 4 hives in this little fenced in area.

Great Pics! I really appreciate it. I am interested in the Beemasters Beekeeping course. I don't think I will even get Bees until next spring and I want to learn as much as I can in advance. Off to peruse some more...
