Jar Feeders

For those who use inverted jars or gallon paint cans for feeders... How many holes do you put in the lid ?

My jar lids have anywhere from 15 to 20 holes made by 1/16 inch drill bit made from the inside of the lid out.

There is no majic number, 10 - 20 is fine.

I was wondering if maybe the amount of holes may have an effect on the vacume like the size of the holes do

Just the more holes, the more initial leaking you will have when you invert it. Once inverted the only difference is the amount of bees that can feed at one time :-D

I put maybe 6-8 holes, almost no leaking when I invert it and the bees have no problem with it, they are getting through about a quart a day

I have found using a nail to punch small holes...pushing part of the lid INSIDE...helps to stop dripping when the temps change especially when the container is plastic.
