Hello--I would greatly appreciate a list of titles of your favorites. I would especially appreciate books that talk about:

bee behavior

topbar hives

"organic" beekeeping

feral bees

swarm lures

Thanks so much!

If you, like stories about beekeeping get this book:
Following the Bloom

>bee behavior

The Hive and Honey Bee Revisited is nice.  The Wisdom of the Hive is good but a difficult read.  Not the kind of book you just run through.  More the kind of book you read a chapter and digest a while.

>topbar hives

The only one I know of is §¤«£¿æ's.

>"organic" beekeeping

The only one I know of is my web site...
www.bushfarms.com

>feral bees
Tom Seeley has done a lot of work.  The Cornell site, I think has some info.

>swarm lures

Same as above... Tom Seeley has done a lot of work.  The Cornell site, I think has some info.

I like a lot of the old ones.  A year in an out apiary by G.M. Doolittle is great.  Huber's New Observations on the Natural History of Bees is great.  A lot of my favorites are here:

Others are here:

Thanks, everyone! Keep them coming! I'm thinking of a crackling winter fire, a small box of honeycomb to chew on and good beek books :)

MB, unfortunately, the recommended book on topbar hives is gobbledygook in translation, but would it happen to be The B a r e f o o t Beekeeper?

Thanks again!

ETA: Could anybody help me understand why the last book I listed above came through in some weird code? And also why one of Michael's did?

How about Abbe (Emil) Warre's "Beekeeping For All".
Very informative read about natural beekeeping and you can download it from the 'net.
I know you think you understand what you thought I said I meant but what you heard is not what I said.

I like xyz of bee culture and bee keeping in the midwest. I also like the OlD books written in the 1800's
never take the top off a hive on a day that you wouldn't want the roof taken off your house

Bee-Bop

I will second Riverrat on;

Beekeeping in the Midwest,(revised)  by Elbert R. Jaycox. U.of Ill. Press, 1976

Practical Beekeeping, Enoch Thompson & R.M. Griffin, Gardenway Press, 1977

Beekeeping -A practical Guide, Richard E. Bonney, Storey Pub., 1993

Hive Managment, Richard E. Bonney, Storey Pub., 1990

Of course the two Bibles of Beekeeping; ABC-XYZ  &  Dadant

Great! Some I have read, many others I haven't. Looking forward to ordering them from my library and digging in!

Any others I should get?
