Ok, this is cruel, but I had to share it with you...this just happened to me and I cannot stop laughing!

This high class, top of the social ladder lady sent me an email about 'killer African bees' that were invading her new home. She had a light fixture on the outside wall of the 'breezeway' between her house and her garage. The killer bees were entering the houes through a hole under the light fixture.

She wanted me to tell her how much I would PAY to come and remove the bees! She said that she knew that they were worth lots of money and that honey was around $10 an OUNCE! :? With all of the money I would make with those bees, I could pay a contractor to REPAIR HER HOUSE after the removal!

I was not even going to send her an email back, but I did out. I told her that I did not pay for the bees, etc. and that I would not pay for a contractor to repair her new house either. Then I asked her what made her think that they were 'killer African bees'?

She promptly called me on the phone....here is what she said....she KNEW they were those AFRICAN KILLER BEES, as they were all very BLACK LOOKING and not like any of the AMERICAN BEES she had ever seen!  :jawdrop: :lau:

We had a talk for a few minutes, then she said that she was going to call some REAL BEEKEEPER, who would know what the bees were worth!

Reply with this statement.......

""I have decided the bees are worth 3,750 dollars to me. After removing them and paying the contractor for repairs, I will send you a check for the balance.

My schedule is fairly tight at the moment and it may be awhile before I can get to you. I will email you as soon as I am free and we can set an appointment.""

If she is dumb enough to call back, just keep telling her you are still overbooked.

Brenda, in June of this year I actually had something similar happen, not quite to the same degree but still interesting.

I was at the street taking a break from a removal and this older, very pale skinned, red headed woman passed by me, then backed her car up, even with me.

She looks at my truck and says "Honeybee Removal" ---"How much do you pay for hives?"

I said, excuse me? She says, "How much do you pay to remove hives?"

I said, "Maam, you have it reversed, I don't pay you, you pay me to remove hives."

She looked at me with this dumbfounded look, then says "Oh" and drives off.

I don't know who was more confused when she drove away.

iddee,

With my luck, she would probably want the money in advance and require a signed contract stating that she gets that money with interest!

JP,

This year I have had a record number of people wanting me to pay them for swarms and colonies. I have also had more than my share of people who want me just to take the 'bees' and leave them all of the comb honey! They refuse to listen to me when I tell them that not all of the comb contains honey, but brood and pollen as well...they think I am trying to cheat them I guess.

Also, a lot of folks remove swarms for free. I do the same thing if I do not have to drive a lot of miles to get there and the swarm is easy to get. I get calls telling me that they can get them removed for free, but the other beekeepers are too busy to come and get the bees NOW.....so, would I please drive 80 miles or more one way to get the bees NOW???

This call rates up there with the one call about the lady who needed swarms of bees removed from her flower bed. I get there to have her point out to me to get that bee out of that flower and that bee out of that flower, etc. as she did not want those bees in her flowers! I guess she thought that I was going to stand there with a little net and catch those bees one by one!

JP I can tell you who was more confused...........................and she still is.

RR I just can't believe you would not help that lady out by catching one bee at a time, I mean come on, free bees to you !!

I have at least started asking if they have sprayed them before I even go look, if they have, I don't even bother with them.

those hot bees will have you steppin and a fetchin like your heads on fire and your keister is a catchin!!!

Bees will be bees and do as they please!

G3Farms,

I think that you put a jinx on me, as I just got another call wanting me to come and and gather up the bees that are in this lady's garden. She said that every flower in the garden has a bee on it! She wants them GONE!

I have also had people ask me what I do with the bees after I remove them. I tell them that I give them a new home that I built with my own hands, then take them back to my farm/apiary, where I take care of them. EVERY one of them then ask me how much I sell the bees for.....as they KNOW that I DO NOT KEEP every bee that I take home.

Brenda

G3farms

Tell them you sell bees for 10 cents a piece and can not keep them in stock :-D, but sometimes you stop along the way home and place them one at a time on the flowers just for fun.

I have heard that round up works wonders for getting the bees off of flowers.

Did not mean to jinx you, I'll have to do the bee chant and throw a piece of burr comb over my shoulder, maybe even make some homemade biscuts and spread a little clover honey on them................yeah that will do it.

Now everything will be fine and back to normal, what ever that may be.

It really does take all kinds of people to make the world go round, glad I'm one of the few sane ones, I think.

Anyone that really keeps bees is sane....after all, who else but a sane person would want to mess around with thousands and thounsands of deadly stinging insects?  :-D

I am making some home made bread right now....it will seeon be done...if you were closer, I would give you same nice, hot, homemade bread to go with that clover honey!  :-D

Brenda

G3farms

MMMMMMMMM home made bread one of my most favorites for double sure, I can almost smell it now.

I would definately share my honey with you and your hot home made bread.

Well did my un-jinxing work for you today or is it too early to tell??

G3Farms,

All is still well as of this moment! But I am not saying that too loud! :-X

I have a new problem now....the neighbor's popcorn field is surrounded by a very heavy and healthy growth of ragweed. I am severely allergice to ragweed and it makes me have asthma attacks. I have a bee yard right next to the worst growth of ragweed that you ever seen! (Thanks to all of that rain this spring!) I went to work the bees in that yard and came home like I had been stung about a hundred times....that pollen was so think you could see it in the air! My eyes are swollen and I can hardly breathe and that is after I have been taking my meds for a few weeks. This is just the start of the allergy season here and the pollen count is only a '2'....when it hits a '10'
I am not going to be able to work those bees at all!

I put my hives there on my own property, as I have clover planted. They get plenty of water from his irrigation system and they are away from any sprays or other proplems.....other than that ragweed! ARGH!

P.S. I am making some home made sourdough bread today! With just a touch of honey! All of my breads have honey in them.
