Hi All,
Can anyone tell me why bees go agro is it the moon phase, what they eat, weather or what.

I have a hive of Itallion Bees the Queen is not a year old yet they are the most angry bees I have come across any out there got any susgestions
I live west of Bundaberg Queensland. The hive is near a state forest lovely climate we are in our dry period at present we have only two weather patterns wet and dry due to the hot weather we are having it is more like spring all the fruit trees have finished their blossom and so they are into lavender and various gum trees at present

First off, welcome to Beemaster!

Is this your only colony now? Have you talked to other beeks in the area as to the overall general temperment of the bees in your area?

In a nutshell, without more specifics its extremely difficult to answer your question. There are many factors that affect honeybee colonies and hence their temperment.

Weather affects temperment, very windy conditions usually throw mine for a loop. Barometric pressure changes absolutely affect temperment.

A queenless hive is often not too chipper, a hungry hive is not too chipper. The list of factors go on.

The main thing is what are they like on a consistent basis? If always very ill tempered, a hive like that is not pleasurable to work and puts you and others in harm's way. Requeening hot hives is the general consenus.

Are you sure there's not some thing pestering the hives ,, skunk , coons .. as they will make a hive unworkable  ( hot )..     are there marks showing up on the front of the hive ,,,  scratch marks ( skunk ) ???
be sure its queen right ,, if its queen right ,,,,  look at something pestering  them ..  ether set live traps or foot traps ,, electric fence or something to stop visitors ..

Hi,

Greetings from Melbourne!

From my limited experience, bees are a bit like small winged ladies.  When things go well for them (ex. lots of nectar) they are happy.  If they are nasty - something upsets them and they worry.  Have you done something lately that may not be to their liking?  Been there, done that, turned them into a mob of crazy hornets.  Fixed the error, turned them into little flying lambs.

If they turned nasty recently, see what had happened that might have caused this.  There is always a reason if they are upset - they are just small flying ladies, no different to the bigger ones.  ;)

Good luck,

Andrew
