Good morning,

Yesterday I did a minor check on the colony. Later  the afternoon. Temp. somewhere around 70F. Had been raining throughout the night and off and on during the day.

I've had the lid propped slightly to allow more air flow and when I took it off there was a large mass of bees clinging to the underside as well as many more on the top inner board.

This is a first year colony of Italians. I have two deeps and a medium. Since the Goldenrod bloom the girls have really been busy. several days ago I noticed they were drawing comb more and storing honey.

I built another set of frames last night with plans to add another super.

Any ideas about the girls hanging out in the "attic"?

They are just hanging out.  Bees do that all the time.  More so in early morning or late evening or at night.  More so in the heat.

I began feeding last night and when I lifted the outer cover to put the two quart jars of syrup in the upper medium super (over the inner cover), it was like you described just filled with bees.  I had never seen so many up there.  It was quite a surprise, expecting a dozen or two and finding hundreds or thousands.

I harvested honey on Saturday and they were still grouchy.  I got stung once on the arm. . . biting the hand thats feeding them. . .LOL
