Has anyone triied an "Aluminum Truck Box" as a hive?
I saw a "Aluminum Truck Box" in local store and Bee Thinking,
so that a new shinny hive want-a-be!  Really thought about it. Pick wide about 6-7cu. ft., maybe.
Raccoon proof, waterproof, lockable, and Bear proof if I hang it 16 ft high (from cables between trees).
Would line inside with foam sheet.
Cost less than a full 4 deep Std hive too! price was $219. Can.

'oven' comes to mind  :-D

'oven' comes to mind, Ya but its very shinny almost like a mirror.
I would have insulated anyway for cold.  :-D
Just dreaming maybe.
But ten minutes ago my son came by and said I can put one at his place.
He just bought an acre 40 minutes away.
This means I can build more hives.

The price for 4 deep boxes is less than $40.  You still need to get frames and foundation.....

Like Kathy said it would have to be very well insulated because of the thermal transfer properties of aluminum. Sure would be the mans bling hive for looks. LOL!!!

I Admit to the Bling looks,
but as to >The price for 4 deep boxes is less than $40. You still need to get frames and foundation.<

Most will use an electric fence to try and convince bears that the hive is not worth the zap.
