Hi all.

I've been looking around for a premade fondant as I dont have a thermometer and didnt want the hassle of creating fondant.

I purchased some from a baking store. It was the only place I could find fondant. It listed the ingredients as:

3% Invert
3% Corn Starch

I guess the rest is confectioners sugar. Anyhow, I thought I read something that Corn Starch was bad. But how bad? Is 3% alot? What happens if Bee's get into something with Corn Starch?

They can't digest it.  In turn it can give them additional waste that they can't void until it gets warm enough to fly.  If that doesn't occur (prolonged cold spell) they'll soil the hive or die.  At the least the additonal stress can weaken the hive.  I've traveled up in your neck of the woods but I don't know the weather enough to make any recommendation.  I'd talk with some local beeks to understand if this is a concern there.

Ryan,
Try calling the Dawn Foods Distributor in your area.

http://www.dawnfoods.com/public/managed/contact_us/locations/washington/index.asp

They have fondant in 50 pound blocks that has no additive such as corn starch.

You should be looking for a product called Bes-Fond Fondant  Item #00071746 with a SKU of
0-29519 02625-7

If the main distribution is too far to drive, just ask where closeby they might deliver, and than call a place to see if they will throw on some blocks on thier next order.
