I've seen some great videos from John Pluta on his new hive beetle traps, but his website seems to be either down or unmaintained.  I sent him an email and never heard back . . . .does anyone know if his beetle traps are available for purchase anywhere?  I'd really like to do the Freeman style traps, but the expense is so high on those . . . and I'd love to be able to move them from hive to hive as needed.

I did the same method with both the traps and CD cases.  Didn't work with either.  Only works well, at least for me, if there is a strong infestation.  If there's just a few floating around, his method didn't work as well as he described.

You can call John in the evening. I think you just send him a check by mail and he will send you what you ask for.

Yep Rossmans. I can attest to the fact that the "Beetle Barn" does indeed work. Just like Pluta's videos, i removed scores of those blasted little pests!

Just ordered a bunch from Rossman's . . . do you use roach bait from the hardware store in yours?

I used CheckMite in mine (cut to fit the square in the center), although I did try the 'roach bait' (contains fipronil) in a test hive. Don't think that fipronil is approved for use in hives. Gotta remember to only use it when you don't have the honey supers on and it's not preventative maintenance, only when you have an outbreak of the SHB.

  They do work well though...

What was he using in the video? It seemed to work well. I found some combat with Hydramethylon. Will it work as well as Fip.?

Judging from the tube (which the label was carefully hidden) , it was probably one of the fipronil baits. Most of what you see at walmat/homedepot/lowes contain it.

I did test in one hive with it (2 different brands-Maxforce Gel & one other) , but you might have to check with your local folks to see if it can be used in the hive. CheckMite is approved for use.
