Last year I planted some buckwheat for my bees. I was thinking about planting some sunflowers this year in addition to a larger bed of buckwheat. What type of sunflower seed should I get? I read that some sunflowers don't produce pollen. Will oil sunflower seeds (the kind for buy for birdseed) be a good choice? Thanks!

I am going to do the same as you.  I plan on buying heirloom seeds that are not hybrids. Mammuth Russian is one. I also planted (last fall)400 grape hyacinth bulbs all over my yard for early spring flowers.  I think I will plant pockets of GH bulbs in my yard every fall. Again I chose old varieties.
