I know a couple that has two hives high up about 40 feet. They swarmed twice last year. Is there a way to set out two boxes with old comb and  lemon grass oil to try to attract them out? Or is it not worth the effort. I know that cutting the tree down would be one option but not this time. I don't have a bucket truck to get there. The bees have been up there for a few years. Any thoughts? or just leave them alone.

If were me, I'd let 'em bee :) and set up a couple lures.

that would be my choice also.  set out some swarm traps and leave the tree bees alone.  if you could get swarms from that hive, it would be worth it!

Hmmm.. One to two swarms a year for even a few years would save some serious dollars in new hives produced.  Now that's a MONEY TREE.... :-D ;)
Relax, step back, take a deep breath, the finger you save just might be your own!

Set up a ladder and chainsaw off the tree just above the bees and then place a box on top. :-D

When I was younger I did all kinds of crazy stuff to get swarms, its not worth killing yourself.

I agree as well.  Unless there is a compelling reason to get bees out of a tree, it is best to leave them.  There's easier ways to get bees.
Compelling reasons: tree fell, cut down, or owners want them out because they are a nuisance.

But your idea of setting up an attractor hive is great!
