The Guilford County beek club sponsored a cutout as a community service and for the members who wanted to learn removals. The President, Rob Jacobs, and I, led 6 newbies into a 15 gallon of comb, 8 to 10 lb. of bees, wall hive. 8 and 1/2 hours we were finally done. It was fun, and a good learning experience for the members.
Too many pictures to post here, so click on the link to visit my photobucket album.

I've chosen understanding over knowledge-since knowledge is all about knowing where to find facts and understanding is knowing how to manipulate knowledge...I've also chosen knowledge over beliefs!! We all need to..

What's the story with this hive Iddee, looks like there used to be bees there, don't see many pictured, most swarm out?

The vac box was emptied 3 times, JP. Pics of only one of them. My camera operator missed the other two boxes.

Ok, yeah from the pictures don't look like a lot of bees covering any of the comb sections.

What is this...where's waldo?  I didn't spot the goat, but there were a lot of pictures of some ugly half-naked old guy!  :-D   :-P

So I was doing a cutout with a friend, and we were getting pinged, angry bees, and I mentioned that some guy on the forums does this without any gear or even a shirt.  I think his question was "what kind of idiot does that?!!".  I said I didn't know, that but he seemed like an alright feller.

So my question is... do you get a lot of stings when you do that?

Other than on my hands, the 8 to 10 stings I got were all with my shirt on. They would get inside and get mashed. Once it was off, they just landed on me and then flew away.

Of course, not using gloves, I mash a lot of them while cutting comb, so the unknown number of stings on fingers and hands don't count.

PS. Mosquitoes swell many people more than bees do me. After 20 to 30 stings on my hands, you normally can't see a difference in my hand size.

Very nice cutout. It looks as if it went very well.
Great group of pictures, and it is really nice that your club can help new beekeepers by showing them the ropes with a cutout.

Thanks for sharing them with us!
