Folks, this was a pretty good size swarm, at least 5 lbs of bees. Had to pull out all my tricks to box them. Queen was inside under carriage. I tried smoking them out a few different times but ultimately bee quick did the trick. By some miracle she came out and wound up on the bumper.

Once I caged her it was all down hill from there. It was amazing to see all the tidbits of comb they had deposited on the bumper and hood.

This was at a Chevron plant and I had about a dozen or so people watching the entire event. They all had to see the queen!

I thoroughly enjoyed this swarm catch.

Hope you enjoy the video!

OH I really, really love this video and how peaceful and calm you were through it all (as usual). I find it amazing that you use your hand and take your time through it all. You can see that the bees remain calm as well. I will share this video with my beekeeping friends out here and the 4H club.

But the best part ever was that pretty red umbrella at the end.( I wish I had one like that!! )

Take care JP and thanks for the fun time, once again.

JP, do you have AHB in your area?   And do you always use the caution tape?  And the Umbrella was great at the end.

JP you are the man when it comes to being one with the bees!!

That was a great video, my wife thinks you are nuts though. I thought it was funny how the parking lot emptied out over time and he was the only one left.

I laughed my butt off when you popped that red umbrella open

Great video JP. You truly have the touch. That is a very nice looking swarm, and I am sure you impressed the onlookers.
Once again Thank You for sharing it with us!

I'm glad you guys liked the footage!

Allen, I have had two colonies tested for AHB but they were negative. I don't always use caution tape. On this one the chevron employees put it up.

That sure is a nice umbrella Annette.  ;) Look for it on my next video that I will be posting shortly.

Nice, the umbrella was the cherry on top.  Thanks for posting that.

JP,
Before you take the hive home, do you wait until dark for most of the bees to enter your deep, or do you just take what you got and let the rest fend for themselves?  If it wasn't a public place like this, would you just leave it for a day or two before you moved it?

Thanks, I've got a listing on Craigslist, but haven't got a chance to collect one yet.  I'm excited to try.

DP, on most all I leave them until dark and go back the same evening and seal them up. On this one I left the set up and went and shook the swarm on the crape myrtle that I posted about. After I shook that swarm, I went back to the Chevron plant and sealed the hive, then back to the ones I boxed from the crape myrtle tree.

If they are really far away and you can't go back after dark, you will have stragglers left behind.

JP - an absolute LEGEND as ever.

I am always amazed you don't wear any gloves or veil - I had a huge prime swarm to collect yesterday in the UK and I got stung moving the bees by hand like you did (with gloves on !!)

hey ho. happy beekeeping

What he does not show you on the video is that he is a bee whisperer.   He sooths them before the he starts the tape.  He also has a magic flute that he uses on rats and smurfs along with the bees.  Like fishing, it is all how you hold your mouth also.

Dang! Who told you about the magic flute, that was a secret!

Actually, its Annette's magical umbrella that makes all the difference. I don't know what it is but just having it near me makes me feel invincible!  :-D
