Howdy:

I'm casper_zip (Bob) in good ole Southwest La. I live near the east Texas border which is the Sabine river. I'm in my first year of being a beekeeper. My brother is a bee geru, and he gave me 10 hives.

Already, this year, I have caught 2 swarms by myself, didn't get stung, and no equipment except for a couple of empty hives. I am retired, but I am excited as a kid waiting for Christmas. This is one happy, fulfilling, and enjoyable thing, I LOVE my bees.

Hope to make more friends, learn more stuff and be the best beekeeper in this part of the world.  There seems to be no limit to what you can learn, what needs to be learned, etc.

Thanks to all of you in advance.

Welcome my friend... I'm pretty new here as well... Although I've been keeping bees since the Spring of 97... One thing you should be aware of is come next Spring...make sure to give your bees a lot of space...otherwise, you could lose a swarm...I've caught a lot of swarms using lures and bait hives this year... (eleven to be exact) and I bet over half of those are from newer beekeepers who don't know whats up... When in doubt....give them space...If you don't wish to make increase, make a nuc, put it on top of your hive, and combine it with your hive in July (after swarm season is over)...Then you just need to add supers in a timely fashion...I hope all that makes sense...

Hey Bob,  I may not be too far from where you are.  We live within 15 miles of the Sabine in Orange County.  Good luck.
