Went back to my beeyard to fetch an empty box.  Didn't mess with any of the hives.  Didn't even flirt with the girls in any way.  Walking away from the area with my empty box and one went kamikaze on me.  She flew right into my eye from about 10 feet away.  I saw her coming, but all I could do was shut my eye and try to turn away.  I think she flew in butt first.  Thankfully I didn't get it in the eyeball.  Right above it...my eye was scrunched pretty tight when she hit me, but boy did it SMART...

The good news is that even though I didn't get the stinger out for about 3 minutes I have very minimal swelling.  I thought I had it out, but upon checking in the mirror it was still there.  This morning it is noticeable, but hardly.

Stay safe all...

Stings in the eye area really hurt! Speaking from experience.

i don't either but tonight i was out in the field and one came after me.  i ran for the barn but it tangled in my hair and nailed me on the scalp.  hurt like a SOB and i cussed like a Marine.  they are sure testy with than honey on there.  even with smoke it's a trick to go into the hives.

Funny thing is, this is the first time that I have been stung by any of "my" bees.  (this year)  Not sure what provoked her.  I don't work my hives without a veil, but just to grab a box sitting on the edge of the yard didn't warrant a veil......until I got nailed LOL.

Someone else had started a discussion about immunity.  I don't know how long it will last, but I am still amazed at the stings I got late last season and this season.  Virually no noticeable swelling.  I went to church yesterday morn with the family.  Less than 24 hrs since the sting and not one person noticed.  (Maybe I am just naturally a low-brow looking dude? LOL)
