I built up a votex escape last night following Cushmans plans. I plan to install in Thursday for super removal on Friday.  I have 3 supers on now with the uppermost just starting to be filled.  Should I move that super to a lower location just above the hive body with the escape just above that so they have room and a place to store what they are pulling in?  Never used on before and thought I would give it a try.   I will try and add a link latter.

you are abit late for pulling honey here.   You are going to end up with a bunch of smelly goldenrod honey.  How many hives do you have at this location?  Does any one else have hives near yours.   If you only have one and no one is near what I would do is remove the one they are filling and just stand it on end near by so they can rob it out.  They will empty it in a day or 2 and store it where it need to be above the brood nest.   You could also place it under the brood nest and let them move it up.  Put your escape triangle side down below the 2 full ones.

Figured I was a bit late but on the bright side the two lower supers were full to the nuts so I would not think there would be much rod' in there.  My thought is it should all be in the top.  We have 7 hives total.

are the hives on amber rd or is it fountain or beyer that you live on?   didn't you start these last year?   next year what i would do is pull the supers as soon and the star thistle ends.   I know this year has been a mess.   thistle just got going good for about a week when we had the gusher rain that washed all the flowers out.  Then the golden rod came on to early and is still going strong.  Now I have seen asters starting to early.   This going going to be a long robbing season and I think a bad winter up here

Some each on Amber and Beyer.  These are some we started this spring.  Last year 2 of my hives just emptied out.  You could have put all the dead bodies in the palm of your hand.  Full stock of honey just no bees.  Hope to do better this year.  Hard to tell if it is us screwing it up or just a year or bad luck.
