Dr. B in Wisconsin

Hello
I live in Wisconsin and it gets quite cold here, sometimes -25 F hopefully not too much this winter. I have always been one for insulating my house sooo I thought that I could screw a 2 inch thick piece of that hard insulation board on three sides to keep a little heat inside the hive during the cold days that are coming. I bought one of those tops that have the 2 inch thick hard insulation so the top will be insulated.  Any opinions on this?? ( First winter for me)

Thanks,
Brian

It can not hurt unless it does not let moisture out of the hive.   You don't want it to rain inside the hive.   It is just your time and your money.

I would insulate the top (which you have covered already) and forget the rest.  But that's based on my experience in my climate.
