Hi all,

a friend lost his queen in the cage after installing his package.  I checked for a loose queen in the package and there is not one.  no eggs.  Hes definately queenless.  Its too early in the year to let them raise their own queen.

Does anyone know of a producer where he can purchase a queen ASAp/  Thanks!

Why is it too early?  If you have drone brood should be able to raise your own queen.  Try Walter T. Kelley they may still have queens left for sale.

My bet is there is a virgin queen loose.

here in Pa we are just starting to get drone brood.some hives have more some have less.  Its a new package for this guy so he wants a queen in there asap.  im thinking there is a virgin queen in there as well.  I looked for one, but i didnt see her....obvioulsy it doesnt mean she isnt there.  Anyway, thanks for the help.  I had him put in a frames of eggs and young larvae from another hive so that will buy some time and if they raise a queen hopefully enough mature drones are present in the area to mate.  thanks!
