Agreed; Ventilation is largely misunderstood by 'most' beeks.  Mold is caused by inadequate ventilation and/or dampness entering hive (large gaps, not tilted, etc.).  Put vent box on top, under telescopic cover and over inner cover, splitting the two supers makes bees cover too much ground to protect early brood. 

Are you trying for some early honey?  May be too early even in your neck of the world.   

As for those gaps; First chance, I'd get your sander moving:-D  Something ain't right with that fit.
