If I was to do a split and let the new hive raise thier own queen is it now too late in the year to do this?

VolunteerK9

Nope now would be the time to do a split. It only takes a 16 days +- to hatch out a queen. Just make sure you have plenty of drones flying .

Where would the split hive get the drones?

VolunteerK9

Your hives should have drones flying before you attempt a split. If your not seeing any drones and not real sure of any feral hives, I would wait on splitting.

If you have bees out there, there should be drones around this time of the year.
