Okay question is I had a Nuc with a swarm that went queenless and had a drone layer. I decided to do a combine with one of my weak hives. I made a combining board and decided to try and stop the drone layer before the combine. I put the combining board on top of the full hive and then placed window screen over the whole to allow the smell of the brood to go up into the nuc but keep the bees and drone layer from entering the full hive. Here is a picture

Now that is where I was transferring the bees from a nuc with a bottom to a nuc without one so this would work so the end was only one nuc deep. Now it has been at least 5 days So will I have to still do a paper combine or should the bees accept each other without issue because of the screen and smell riseing up in to the nuc?

.
Idea was good and well done.

They have same scent now and you just put them together.

Imyself never use newspaper. If I am afraid of loosing  the queen, I put it into cage during joining.  I prefer to keep a mesh overnight between colonies to make them same scenting.

If bees do not bite nextday the cage, I let the queen free.

Thanks
I was planing to check and see if there was eggs from the laying worker if not then combine most advise is given with the thought that everyone has extra strong hives to steal brood from I don't have that luxury.
