early one winter back in the 70's a beekeeper i knew was making bee candy for a couple of light hives. my recollection is that he was pouring heavy syrup onto a wax paper covered cookie sheet to harden & then feed to the bees. i saw a post mentioning robo's bee candy but but when i did a search all that came up were some references but no actual recipe. would someone direct me to the recipe. i have a feeling i will need it this winter.

Dry sugar is easier and works just as well if you dampen it a little.

Here's 1 recipe for the Candy Board.  I imagine that there are many out there.

Robo.bushkillfarms.com or just google robo sugar frame.

If you make some sugar frames, take it out when it looks like oatmeal.  Mine turned out well but were fatter than a normal frame. Keep that in mind when you are filling the empty frames.

I am more partial to a candy board over dry sugar for one reason. The candy board, when inverted over the cluster is right above them where they can get it. Dry sugar they tend to have to break cluster and climb on top of it.

I have 30lbs of fondant on one hive this year that really suffered going into fall. A few sticks on top of frames to support the weight, a queen excluder and a shallow super covers it all. They seem to love the fondant.

is it unusual to use fondant  in the US?
If they increased energy bill for your home by a factor of 4.5 would you consider that cruel? If so why are you doing that to your bees?

I just put on my candy boards today. 16 pounds sugar 3 cups water and instead of vinagar I used vitamin C.
