I am starting off with all mediums - one 10-frame hive and one 8-frame hive. When I install packages, how many boxes with frames should I shake the bees onto in both cases?

I would put all the frames in the box, and feed as much as they will take.  This will encourage them to make comb.

So, one box in both cases? I do plan on having the boxes full of frames, and I plan on feeding. My question is if one medium 8-frame or 10-frame box is enough room for a 3# package. I will keep a close eye on them and add another box when they start to fill out the outer frames if it is, but I wonder if it's better to just start with two boxes.

I would say, start them in one box and add another as soon as 80% of frames are drawn. They'll have an easier time getting started with less area to heat and protect.

I don't use mediums myself but I would think 3# in an 8 frame med is like trying to haul two ton of turnips in a one ton truck. I would go with two boxes on the 8-framers for sure. Probably the 10-framers as well.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

An 8 frame medium is about the same area as a 5 frame deep. Since the people that use deeps start a package on ten frames I would say you would use two 8 frame mediums.

In all cases I'd use one box.  I have installed 3 pound packages into five frame medium nucs (with no drawn foundation).
