Can't controll them around my house.

Do they cause problems with honey bees ?

I find one every now and again in the hive buy they don't seem to be much of a problem for the bees. I have lots around but I use soapy water to control them.

This may be weird but, I have noticed that in the two weeks since I captured this hive (my first) I have not had near the wasp and hornet problem that I used to and normally do this time of year.   I have a window A/C unit that empties into a pail and a leaky faucet in the back that they congregate around, normally.  I like this!  It wasn't instantaneous.  They tapered off as the days went by.  Like I said, weird.

I find the wasp trap very interesting.  Would our honeybees get in there also?  I have a real problem with wasps.  What about bumble bees?  I have a bumble bee nest in my yard and don't want to harm them either.

I have one of those traps in my yard. As long as you do not put honey in the trap the bees will have no interest.

I also have loads of bumbles and none have entered my trap. Just moths, flys, wasps and yellow jackets - oh and one june bug.

Mine is sitting on the ground in front of the  hives where the yellow jackets were hovering. I did have it about 4 ft up and they weren't noticing it. As soon as I set it down on the ground they started check it out.

You don't have to use banana. I used peach skins and a piece of cantalope rind. It helps to rub some around the entry holes. I also took some left over salmon and put in there. I use a string (drilled holes in the cap) with twist ties to hold the fruit/meat. I couldn't find my cheesecloth or I would have put the fruit/meat in a little bag.
