This was a rare gift for someone who removes bees for a living.  I wasn't able to salvage but one comb section but I was able to save this colony that had gone through quite a bit of human intervention.

Hope you enjoy the video!

Quick little update on these ladies. I brought them with me on the removal I did today in Arabi, Louisiana (Currently working on that video). I let them rob out some pretty honey comb I pulled from The Port Sulphur colony removed on Monday. I went in and was able to find the queen. So that was a beautiful thing. The hive will be relocated tomorrow along with the Arabi bees.

Great tecnique work with the smoke JP, creative.

Question, using a recent cutout to cleanup the honeycomb. Last year seems like when I did that the bees backfilled the brood nest because they didn't have the honey storge comb built yet to store it. Does that cause any long term issues?

Thanks

Don

JP

If its a new colony Don they just have the need to store honey. Manage them like you would any hive. Give them room to grow if they need it. There may be more to your question than I'm reading. Hope I addressed your concern. If not please throw me another question. Perhaps I will understand that one better. :)

So much easier and more peaceful than the Billy the Exterminator video option...less compelling television however   ;) so I don't think the Discovery channel will be calling you anytime soon.  Nicely done!!!!!  Plus, you didn't have to cover yourself with pyrethran spray.

IMO videos are more interesting when more than one person is in the video or it could just be me.  ;)

BTW, I did some filming this past summer, a pilot. I wasn't the main attraction but it will be cool if it airs. It was a BBC production & we filmed for about an hour & a half of pure unadulterated footage. Look up Fergus Drennan, the roadkill chef. Fergus is a great guy from the UK. He is an urban forager & trained chef.

This is where the filming took place:

Jp you the man :)  question for you, what happen to the wild beard and hair?? All business no party these days ?? Haha.    I would like to see a guy like you then Billy on TV someone with some smarts about how to handle bees instead of a wack job skater type looking guy that has no clue about bees.  Another question how many cut outs are european compared to africanized just a curious question how impeded the africanized are.  Chris

First off Chris, I hate the short beard look but my wife likes it. I'm growing it back in! Every now and again I cut my hair.  :-D

AHBs entered officially in Ruston, Louisiana in June of 05. I spoke with our chief state inspector about 4 months ago at length. He informed me there have only been 7 documented cases since 05 throughout the state.

I've had two tested that were wickedly mean but they came back negative. They just aren't down here yet. Not sure why they haven't taken off but I'm fine with that!

Somebody has to give you a run for your money.   :-D  Perhaps we need to have an official Beemaster longest beard contest.

JP

Gonna need a few months, just trimmed mine!  :-D

To start a contest we'd all have to shave it off and start again.  The longest beard after the agreed time is the winner.

JP

Can't do that, look too funny without the beard.  :-D
