1st deep- brood chambers
2nd deep- girl's honey
3rd deep- my honey.

The queen came up and laid in 2nd box, I excluded her down to bottom box so they could fill the 2nd deep with honey for themselves.

There is drones stuck up in 2nd deep......

Is this a problem and is this a silly question??? :-)

personnel I don't use excluders. but if you want move the frame with the brood down and remove a outside frame from the lower box. this should solve the problem. drowns should be able to make it out if not put a twig under a corner of the cover to make a top entrance for a week or two and they may make their way out.

nah its not a problem, but i find they do eat a stack of honey.

Drill a top trace hole that can be blocked of if needed.

easy

Prop up the cover and let the drones out.  Leave a stick there for ventilation...

now I want to ask a silly question...if the queen is laying in the second deep would that not be a sign they growing and needing more room for the colony?

shes prb run out of room to lay in the brood nest if shes laying in the second box...

Hi Michael

I love you site, it was a great help when starting out and even now provides many gems each time i go back.

My girls lay in the top boxes during winter...its a temperature thing for sure

thought i'm sure it gets nowhere near as cold here as it does in Nebraska
