Does anyone have their bees on fields of Sainfoin which is a perenial legume used for hay?  How does the honey taste?  In late summer I put my weak hives on the second crop of alfalfa left to go to seed.  The field is being converted to sainfoin this year and my prelim internet research looks like it could be a good source for nectar.

If it is allowed to bloom before being cut, you will be very happy.  Nice light water white honey and lots of it.

Thanks for your info Vance.  If you ever get over to Hamilton/Corvallis, look me up.

The 15 acre field will be in bloom for 2 week prior to the first cutting and the second cutting will be left to seed.  A good scenario for my bees.

Do you participate in the Scots festival over there?  I hope to make it to that this coming year now that I know it is there.
