Bore Scope ?? and where are the bees

Is a harbor frieght bore scope a good option??

And now again lets play where are the bees?

Lady said they had taken siding off once and scraped comb out of there, but she says during the hot summer it sounds like they are in the ceiling and that a bedroom might be directly over that spot or maybe crawl space.

Everytime I've removed bees from a 2 story house, they were in the joists between the floors. Probably is the warmest and coolest option for them.

The problem I have when using a bore scope is that they are great if you are going in straight, but any more than one bend becomes an issue.

Thats were I was thinking.

If they are do you do it from inside or outside.

I mean if it was in the middle of a wall I would say out side but that corner has me worried. That they will be in the joist I cant easily get to.

Also lady keeps thinking I can get to them in the attic space tried telling her I dont know if that would be true from what she told me.

Robo so do you say buy one or not. JP told me last year I had to get one and if so is the one I linked okay.

Oh side note I am looking at buying a massey 35 with bushog for 1500 what do yall think I have never been around a massey everyone here was to po for those we all had fords.

I can't recommend to buy one or not. All I can say is that I get less use out of mine than I had hoped for. Can't speak for the one you listed. I have the same Pro Vision one as JP, it only requires drilling a 1/4" hole. Most of the others require 1/2" or bigger.

I've got the same one and use it quite a bit. Is it needed? no. Is it useful? Absolutely.

haddon,they should be in the floor joist.if you have a infrared temperature gun you can use it to locate where they are and the bore scope to determine how deep they are in.i did one last week and they were in about 3 1/2 feet. .i did it from the outside but 4 feet would be max for going from the outside..second option would be going through the floor above them if possible.third option would be going through the ceiling which is my last choice.as for the bore scope ,the pro vision works good.1/4 inch hole and your in.if you need to look up just dril the hole on a 45degree . ......schawee

I don't ever recall telling anyone they "needed" a borescope but they do come in very handy. Ditto on the Provision & 1/4". I usually choose to go in from the floor above if you can. The infrared thermometer only picks up heat & in many cases is accurate in giving you a good idea of the size of the cluster but... It obviously will not show you comb bees are not covering. If you go in from the outside & they are more than say 4' further in you will have to go in & open the floor or ceiling anyway. Two jobs in one, no thanks!

I use the same one that JP has...he's the one that turned me on to the source a couple of years ago. I seem to recall it was $89 at the time.

I have had three scopes and the one I like best is the smaller scope that was made for injector ports. I have a scope with a flexible 6 foot cable and do use it from time to time when needed. I know my customers really like seeing the screen and bees when I find them. I really shows that I know what I'm doing and builds their confidence in my ability. Harbor Freight carries one that is very similar to the one I use. I am going to purchase this one this year because it had a SD Card Slot for recording. The thing I like about the smaller fiber optic cable is that you can fit it into small crevices and you don't have drill a 1/2 inch hole.

I have to admit the longer I do removal the less I use the scopes. My best friend is the IR Laser Thermometer. I got this one from HF and it works as well if not better then the the one I got from Lowes for $80.

Hi Scott,
Great post, thanks for the recommendations. Just FYI (and I'm not complaining, just reporting) I checked into the customer reviews on the Harbor Freight site. It seems that this particular inspection camera has some pretty negative feedback related to falling apart even in gentle use.
I hope they have fixed the assembly issues by now. This is clearly a powerful camera compared to the $99 little brother that HF also sells.

I don't know much about smart phones...when I went to get one they said I wasn't smart enough to have one... :idunno:

Anyhow, would one of those usb endoscope cameras that are flooding eBay work with a smart phone?

i got the next step up and it does good. I can usually get it to turn about 60 degrees and get a look around. save pics to sd or internal memory and pull them off with usb. decent resolution not hd.. it has a really bright led that you can really turn up the brightness on.
