When to crimp the wire

I am installing two packages Thursday , one on foundation the other not. So when should I crimp the wire before installing in frame or after ? It seems easier and faster to crimp afterwards but I do not get it crimped all the way to the frame side. Also on the foundation less side would wire help out ? Thanks for your time.

You crimp after you put in the wire to both make it tight and to distribute the stress more.

I don't wire my foundationless.

If you have the means, and time to wire the foundationless, it defiantly helps preventing comb failure.   Once they draw past the first wire, you don't have to worry about comb collapse.

Really heavy fishing line works also.  I have used 40 pound line that I had left over from another project that worked well.
