I have been selling for 4 days now on the honor stand. and I have been averaging two sales per day. I went to collect my money from the lock box and someone paid seven $7.00 for a bottle of honey when I am only charging five $5.00 at the honor stand ( no shipping- no one has to monitor the stand). I guess they either made a mistake or thought my product was worth two $2.00 more than I charged.

I guess your price is fair and your clientele good people!  Best of luck continuing this.  I thought the days when one could do such stands were gone.

I've actually gotten by with a coffee can with change inside as an honor box. I will have faith in people until I get screwed over once. May have lost 1 jar unpaid in a few years, but also may have put 1 less out that day.

A woman not far from me has kept an honor stand in her front yard for close to 40yrs. I asked her if theft was ever a problem. She said that for the first 5yrs or so they had a bottle a week go missing until the old man down the road passed away. No problems after then.

Funny thing is he was one of the richest men in the county!

She told me that she pulls in over $600/week with her stand.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

We run the blueberry farm on the honor system.   If someone is going to spend hours out in the sun picking berries, then they are not very likely to steal from us.   We also leave the extras out of the vegetable garden out there also for people to buy.   We leave a lunch box out on the front porch to collect the cash.   And we do get a few checks also.

...and now you know how he was one of the richest men in the county...financially, that is,...I doubt his life itself was very rich.

Somebody posted a tale about an old guy poor-mouthing them down in price on a bee removal, gave them a "woe is me" story...he had a big old gold colored cadillac sitting in the driveway.  Anyhow, after a tough removal (under house with lots of whiskey bottles laying around) the bee remover found out that this old gentleman(?) was, or had been the president of the local bank.

There's still good, honest folks out there...the crooks are making it harder for them to be known, though.

I have people who pay me more for my honey than what I charge for it.  Always a nice little bonus!

Maybe that's because I dress my little kids in rags when selling  :?   :-D

I don't remember seeing honor honey stands around here, but I do see honor vegetable stands sometimes.  I also know a place where you can go into a little store building and get fresh, frozen chicken and grass fed beef.  You write what you are taking along with your name and address, and put a check (or cash) in the box for the amount.  I guess if you rip these people off, you will end up eating hormone filled meat from the supermarket.

we have a bunch around here.  flowers, berries, veggies.  my street is not busy enough to do it, except on sunday.  there are two churches on my street.  i always love it when someone knocks on the door and tries to drag me off to another church across town......
