I have two hives I started mid April and missed much of the flow here in South Carolina. One has 2 frames capped and a good bit of uncapped honey stored. The other hive has very little, so little I feel I need to feed them. This hive swarmed two week ago, I did catch them and started another hive that I'm feeding, the queen is laying in the new hive :).

Why did one hive have stores and the other not? Lazy bees? How much can I expect from the fall flow here in South Carolina?

Sometimes (often) two side-by-side colonies will be very different. Two different queens will have different characteristics, with some producing bees that are considerably more industrious than others.

You said the colony without honey is the one that swarmed. I've had that experience where a swarm leaves the cupboards bare.

Yepp, the swarm took the honey with them.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

I'll second that. All those in favor say "I".

Thanks

Jim123- I do belong to a wonderful club, Mid-state Beekeepers Assoc. I will ask them about the fall flow.

I was wondering what was in their backpacks when they left, now I know :).
