Does anyone have an excellent contact for beekeeping/planning laws in Victoria?

my question is prob best directed to a lawyer bernsad. but as the title implies its to do with the lack of planning acts and bees.

More specifically the direct contradiction between the local laws and the state planning act.

Which leads to Councils trying to use local law to overrule state law.

We heard some mumblings about this at the club at Doncaster but only heard about it at the last minute before much of a representation could be made at the council meeting. I'm afraid I don't know anyone versed in these areas but I'll follow the discussion with great interest. I have had discussions with the local planning dept. about bees/hives and fortunately the local officers are very understanding and open to discussion.

unfortunate our local laws officer has no idea about planning dept law. that's were the problem lies

the apiarist code of conduct was created to serve as a guide line to local councils from the planning department and the vic beeks association.

Unfortunately as people evolve and become more hysterical and clueless this is being ignored by local councils.

I think that should be "as people devolve" Eco. I am fortunate to be in an area where the locals and the council appear to be bee friendly.

If there is no local code/laws then it falls back on the Apiary Code of Practice until the council generates a local policy

In WA there is the Beekeepers Act and Regulations at the state level. Available at the State Law Publishing SLP.WA.gov.AU. Local councils may have a separate local law re Beekeeping or it is hidden in the Local Health law in the pests section about clause 102.

Hi Guys

All sorted out. Thanks to expertise of the VIC Apiarist Association, Council has withdrawn their threats.

I recommend that everyone join their local state apiarist association and support the great work they do.

In Vic its like $80.00 per year. Well worth it!
