Has anyone heard the rumor that amitraz is coming back on the market in a strip form labeled for bee's

AllenF

I haven't see any.   Ok for bees, not ok for me.   I hope it is just a rumor.

It was granted a section 18 in south dakota-there are other states that are applying for section 3
which will be long lasting the process takes longer than section 18 which will have to be renewed in a years time
Amitraz is by far more forgiving to the bees and wax than fluvalvanate (apistan )--Amitraz is accredited for saving the commercial bee industry through its off label use- there is much concern over resistance being developed once it is used throughout the country - the delivery system will be strips at 3% with a time frame of about 42 days-most off label treatments are a quick flash type treatment of about 3 days and resistance is not a prolonged issue -
amitraz is used in europe and at present in canada-RDY-B

What this also means is that the FDA will have to change the ruling which currently states
a zero tolerance for the product(amitraz) in honey--at the current time there is no way to detect it after
a short period of time-amitraz breaks down so quickly there is only two byproducts of the chemical
that can be detected-neither of which is toxic to bees or wax--but there always remains the possibility of a synergist affect with any  treatment or anything the bees get into themselves for that mater---RDY-B

We used to fly tag calves with amitraz treated tags. Didnt know I could tag a hive. Usually if one state passes it, others follow.

Taktic has been use off label on bee's for years.

This was brought up at the Florida Beekeeper Conference in Tampa. They are expecting Fl to approve it for temporary use.

Taktic has been back ordered for this past year.   Production issues.  Merck said it will be available again in 2013

How would Taktic, or Maverick, or Mitivan be applied?  I think all three are forms of amitraz?

And it's effect on mammals:

and more specifically humans:

From the above epa page:
